Die IG Passivhaus
Die IG Passivhaus ist eine unabhängige Interessensvertretung für die Verbreitung des Passivhaus-Standards in Österreich. Gegliedert in den Dachverband IG Passivhaus Österreich und 7 regionale Vereine, sind wir national flächendeckend vertreten.
Unsere Mitglieder sind Unternehmen aus verschiedenen Bereichen der Bauwirtschaft, die es sich zum Ziel gesetzt haben, den Passivhaus-Standard auf höchstem Niveau umzusetzen.
Die IG Passivhaus Österreich dient als zentrale Stelle zur Koordination für Zusammenarbeit und Informationsaustausch der IG Passivhaus Länderorganisationen. Wir repräsentieren mittlerweile ca. 320 Unternehmen mit rund 24.000 Arbeitsplätzen, die sich sehr aktiv dem nachhaltigen Baustandard Passivhaus widmen.
Die IG Passivhaus Österreich ist eine Kommunikations-, Beratungs- und Forschungs- Dachplattform für die Weiterentwicklung von Passivhaus-Gebäuden (Einfamilien- und mehrgeschossiger Wohnbau, Büro- und Verwaltungsgebäude, Gewerbe- und Beherbergungsgebäude, Bildungs- und Ausstellungsgebäuden, etc...).
Wir konnten uns bereits als kompetentes Forum für Bauschaffende, Behörden, Medien, Politiker, Interessensvertretungen, NGO’s, Forschungsinstitutionen, sowie Tagungs- und Messeveranstalter etablieren und sind national wie international Partner zahlreicher Projekte und Initiativen.
Durch unsere konsequente Entwicklungs- und Weiterbildungsarbeit haben wir die hohe Qualität des Passivhaus-Standards wesentlich mitbestimmt. Innerhalb der letzten 14 Jahre ist es gelungen, einen Marktanteil von 25% bei Neubauten in Österreich zu erreichen, womit wir eine weltweite Vorreiterrolle einnehmen.
Wir sind nicht auf Gewinn ausgerichtet und verfolgen ausschließlich gemeinnützige Zwecke. Die Finanzierung erfolgt ausschließlich durch Mitgliedsbeiträge und Fördergelder.

“IG Passivhaus” is an independent special interest group for the promotion of passive house standards in Austria. Seven regional societies are represented under the “umbrella organisation” IG Passivhaus Austria for full national coverage.
Our members are business partners from a variety of construction industry sectors that have committed to the goal of establishing passive house standards at the highest level possible in Austria.
IG Passivhaus Austria serves as the central node for coordinating activities, collaborations, and information exchange between our regional chapters. We now represent approximately 320 businesses with upwards of 24,000 employees, who are actively dedicated to the sustainability standards of passive house construction.
IG Passivhaus Österreich is a communications, consulting, and research platform for the continued development of passive solar building design (single and multi-family dwellings, office and other commercial buildings, educational and cultural facilities, etc.).
We have already established ourselves as a competent forum for builders, government officials, media, politics, interest groups, NGO’s, research institutions, as well as conference and trade fair organisers. Beyond that, we’ve proven ourselves as a partner in numerous national and international projects and initiatives.
We have successfully contributed to furthering high-quality building construction according to passive house standards through our consistent development and continuing education efforts. During the past 14 years, passive houses and other buildings have attained a 25% market share in Austrian new construction – putting us at the worldwide forefront of innovative building technologies.
We are a non-profit organisation, dedicated solely to serving the public good. Our activities are financed exclusively through membership fees and public grants.

Wofür wir stehen | What we stand for
- Klima- und Umweltschutz
40 % des Gesamtenergieverbrauchs in Europa werden durch den Gebäudesektor verursacht. Der Passivhaus-Standard ist das geeignete Instrument die europäischen Klimaschutzziele zu erreichen um die globale Klimaerwärmung einzudämmen. Die UNO fordert eine 80 - 95%-ige Reduktion der CO2-Emissionen bis 2050. Das Passivhaus erzielt bereits heute kostengünstig diese Einsparungen bei gleichzeitigem Komfortgewinn. Die Steigerung der Energieeffizienz und die Reduktion des Ausstoßes an Treibhausgasen sind dem Aus- oder Neubau von Kraftwerken und Pipelines aus ökonomischer und ökologischer Sicht klar vorzuziehen.
- Climate and environmental protection
Of the overall energy consumption in Europe, over 40% is caused by the building sector. The Passive House Standard is an ideally applicable instrument for achieving Europe’s Kyoto Protocol goals to effectively mitigate global warming. The United Nations agreement requires an 80-95% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2050. Today, passive houses already surpass this requirement – while improving levels of living comfort. Both in economic and political terms, increasing the energy efficiency and reducing the emission of greenhouse gases in buildings is clearly preferable to the expansion or new construction of power plants and pipelines.
- Nachhaltiges Wirtschaften im Bauwesen
Wir stehen für erstklassige Qualität und konsequente Konzepte die Wirtschaftlichkeit und nachhaltiges Bauen vereinen. Augenmerk liegt auf der Minimierung des Energiebedarfs und der Treibhausemissionen. Durch beständige fachliche Beratung von politischen Entscheidungsträgern, haben wir dazu beigetragen, dass Energieeffizienz als Kriterium in das Förderungswesen in Österreich einfließt und schlechte Baustandards hinkünftig keine Förderwürdigkeit mehr besitzen.
Auch bei der Erzeugung von Baumaterialien und der Errichtung von Gebäuden ist Ressourcen schonend vorzugehen. Der Hoch und Tiefbausektor verschlingt jährlich 50% des weltweiten Ressourcenverbrauches.
Die IG Passivhaus und ihre Mitglieder setzen sich für die Ressourcen schonende Umsetzung und Verwendung von ökologischen Materialien bei ihren Projekten ein.
- Sustainable economics in the construction industry
We are dedicated to the highest quality and most thoroughly conceived strategies to unite economic viability with sustainability in building construction. Special attention is paid to minimising both energy demand and greenhouse gas emissions. Through continual expert consulting for political decision makers, we have significantly contributed to establishing energy efficiency as a key criterion in Austrian subsidy programmes, meaning furthermore that deficient construction standards no longer meet the requirements for supplementary public funding.
The efficient use of resources must also be considered with respect to the manufacturing of construction materials and the erection of buildings. The overall construction sector (above and below ground) consumes 50% of the global resource demand annually. IG Passivhaus and its members are committed to employing ecologically friendly material in our/their building projects.
- Förderung der Wissenschaft und Forschung
Unsere Aufgabe ist es, Wissen und Know How rund um das Thema Passivhaus zu verbreiten und akquirieren. Um unseren Mitgliedern, Entscheidungsträgern und Interessenten stets neue Erkenntnisse zu vermitteln und den Weg für Innovationen zu bereiten, führen wir laufend zahlreiche Studien durch, um den Passivhaus-Standard weiterzuentwickeln.
- Supporting science and research
Our task is to acquire and distribute knowledge and know-how on the subject of passive house design. In order to communicate new developments to our members, policy makers, and other stakeholders, as well as promote innovative concepts, we are continually executing scientific studies to further develop the Passive House Standard.
- Förderung der Gesundheit
Ein Passivhaus bedeutet hohe Wohnqualität, Komfort und Behaglichkeit in Gebäuden (Einfamilien- und mehrgeschossiger Wohnbau, Büro- und Verwaltungsgebäude, Gewerbe- und Beherbergungsgebäude, Bildungs- und Ausstellungsgebäuden, etc...) bei gleichzeitig erheblicher Reduktion von vielen Gesundheitsrisiken (Schimmel, Staubbelastung, CO2-Konzentration, Pollen, Chemikalienausdünstungen, Radonbelastung) Teilweise kann durch den Passivhaus-Standard eine Reduktion der Schadstoffbelastungen um den Faktor 100 herbeigeführt werden. Getreu dem Motto „Vorbeugen ist besser als behandeln“ können Allergiker so wieder frei durchatmen, anstatt ständig Medikamente und Sprays nehmen zu müssen. Und Schüler können sich dank permanent frischer Luft in allen Klassenzimmern erheblich besser konzentrieren.
- Supporting health
A passive house affords a high quality of living and everyday creature comforts (in single and multi-family dwellings, office and other commercial buildings, educational and cultural facilities, etc.), while significantly reducing a number of health risks (posed by mould, dust, CO2 concentrations, pollen, chemical vapors, radon exposure). The Passive House Standard can even reduce the potential contaminant loads by a factor of 100 in certain cases. In keeping with the motto “prevention is better than treatment,” allergy-suffering occupants can thus finally breath freely again, instead of constantly having to resort to sprays and other medication.
- Soziökonomische Sicherung für Bewohner und Bevölkerung
Die IG Passivhaus belegt in ihren Studien, dass eine Versorgungssicherheit unabhängig von jeglichen fossilen Brennstoffen bereits 2030 erreicht werden kann. Dies bedeutet einen Schutz der Bevölkerung vor instabilen Preisentwicklungen. Um den sozialen Frieden zu bewahren, ist es ein Gebot der Stunde das Geld nicht länger - im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes - zu verheizen.
- Socio-economic safeguard for occupants and general public
In its studies, IG Passivhaus has proven that securing the energy supplies we need – fully independent of fossil fuels – can be achieved by 2030. This also means protecting the general public from instable price developments. The imperative now is to stop burning resources – literally – to maintain social stability.
Was wir bieten
Wir sind die erste Anlaufstelle für Informationen über den Passivhaus-Standard und bieten Beratung für Ausführende, Interessenten und politische Entscheidungsträger.
Wir sind ein Kommunikations-Netzwerk für handelnde Akteure (insbesondere Beratende, Planende, Bauausführende und Bauindustrie) auf dem Passivhaussektor, sowie Interessierte und arbeiten eng mit anderen nationalen und internationalen Organisationen zusammen. Hauptaugenmerk liegt auch auf der Koordination von Nutzung und Austausch von Ressourcen. Unsere Mitglieder haben sowohl online, als auch auf unseren Informationsveranstaltungen die Möglichkeit Erfahrungen auszutauschen.
Als Kompetenzzentrum betreiben wir aktive Qualitätssicherung für den Passivhausbau und bei der Herstellung passivhaustauglicher Komponenten durch Kurse, Schulungen und Weiterbildungsveranstaltungen.
Die IG Passivhaus entwickelt Strategien und Konzepte um rasch und zielführend eine Verbreitung des Passivhaus-Standards in Österreich im privaten und öffentlichen Bereich voranzutreiben.
Wir betreiben gezielte Öffentlichkeitsarbeit zur Steigerung der Bekanntheit des Passivhauses, zur Information über gebaute Objekte und Bewohner-Erfahrungen, sowie zur Entkräftung von Vorurteilen in Abstimmung mit den Ländervertretungen.
Als Dachverband der regionalen IG Passivhaus Vereine setzen wir uns auf bundespolitischer Ebene für die schnelle Verbreitung des Standards ein und forcieren die Errichtung öffentlicher Passivhaus-Gebäude. Ebenso ist die IG Passivhaus Österreich Schnittstelle für den internationalen Wissensaustausch mit den weltweiten Schwesterorganisationen und den europäischen und internationalen Gremien und politischen Entscheidungsträgern.

What we offer
We are the first place to go for information about the Passive House Standard and offer direct assistance for builders, interested parties, and political decision makers.
We are a communication network for active stakeholders (in particular, consulters, designers, builders, and the construction industry), as well as anyone interested in the passive house sector, and work closely with other national and international organisations involved in this field. The main focus also lies on coordinating the use and exchange of resources. Our members have the opportunity to exchange knowledge both online and in person at our information events.
As an Austrian Centre of Competence, we actively conduct quality control, as well as offer training and continuing education courses for passive house construction and the manufacturing of building components that meet such standards.
IG Passivhaus develops strategies and concepts for the timely dissemination and promotion of the Passive House Standard, both in the private and public sectors of the Austrian construction industry.
In cooperation with our regional representatives, we pursue targeted public relations aimed at raising awareness of the Passive House Standard, gaining knowledge about the built environment and its occupants, as well as rebutting negative preconceptions of passive housing design.
As an umbrella association of regional IG Passivhaus organisations, we apply ourselves to promoting the rapid adoption of these building standards and the erection of public buildings designed in this vein. Furthermore, IG Passivhaus is Austria’s hub for the international exchange of knowledge with world-wide affiliated organisations, European and international caucuses, as well as other stakeholder initiatives in the political arena.
